Magdalen Wong: Magdalen Wong artist statement

My current work stems from careful observation of the mundane. I often work with things that are easily accessible, such as generic imageries (i.e. sunrise and sunsets) or found objects (i.e. balloons and old necklaces). Working mainly in video, sculpture, and photography, I alter collected objects and images that clutter our everyday life in attempt to trigger an extended curiosity in the familiar. By concealing and accentuating specific details in the objects and images, I hope to create a diversion for other possible connections to develop, generating an alternate narrative, a mystery in the ordinary.
